Bosc pears simmered in a red wine syrup create a decadent and unique gourmet dessert.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4–6 medium Bosc pears
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups red wine (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, or red blend)
  • Vanilla extract
  • Whole cloves
  • Vanilla ice cream or mascarpone cheese (for serving)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine sugar, red wine, vanilla, and cloves in a saucepan or cast iron skillet.
  2. Bring to a simmer until sugar dissolves.
  3. Light Pit Barrel® according to instructions.
  4. Peel and slice pears.
  5. Place pears in the wine mixture in an oven-safe dish and cook in the Pit Barrel® for 20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes.
  6. Remove pears and set aside.
  7. Simmer remaining liquid until thickened into a syrup.
  8. Brush syrup over pears and serve with vanilla ice cream or mascarpone.
